Concurso Site Monastery

The concept of the project is to disappear into the landscape, hiding the new program in the topography and incorporating it into the existing architectural monument.

The main entrance is through the underground cistern of the monument, which allows the user to be immersed in the past of the place. It is not intended to stand out or mimic but to be sensitive to the environment and create an appropriate balance between the old and the contemporary.

Arches are an important element in design as they try to replicate the same architectural language of the past and incorporate it into the new architecture.

Likewise, the new project does not break with the environment and its intervention in the hill becomes subtle by having facades that resemble the existing ones of the place.

It also seeks the relationship between natural elements and architecture, giving importance to spaces with a focus towards the sea and the hill.

The inner space is a hidden space that invites reflection and meditation, has a fall of light that generates a contrast with the darkness of the space and induces to walk through it and finally discover an outdoor space for contemplation of the landscape and the Cha dos Navegantes.
