Concurso Yoga House

Hinduism holds that every action a person performs for his own benefit adds a layer to the ego that isolates us from our purest inner being. The initial concept of the project was given with the intention of materializing these mundane layers that yoga practitioners must abandon on their way to meeting their infinite self or Brahman. The project is presented as a large curved volume covered with wood, which levitates over the spaces and its lower fold guides the main route of the building through the different layers. From the entrance way to the pavilion to the final space of yoga practice, it seeks to materialize the feeling of getting rid of layers until reaching Nirvana, that is why when entering the project, one finds a stone wall completely closed that directs the way and as it advances, increases its perforations to let in the light. The next most open layer is represented by a wooden structure with latticework of wooden slats and rope that allow the visuals to be distinguished in a greater proportion. Finally, upon reaching the Yoga room, the space opens completely to the horizon and fills with light to represent the end of the path or Nirvana. In this way we are able to generate a physical and sensory contrast, the user begins his journey from a closed point towards the landscape and ends in a wide space, full of openness in terms of light, wind and transparency.
